“Fifteen thousand people from Hadrut lost everything, including their homes, the graves of their family members, and their homeland,” residents of Hadrut who were forced to leave their homes as a result of Azerbaijani aggression said as they protested by the UN Office in Armenia. They were protesting against the fact that the statement signed between Nikol Pashinyan, Ilham Aliyev, and Vladimir Putin requires that the Hadrut region be conceded to Azerbaijan, and that the rights of its residents are being violated.
The protesters noted that Hadrut was never included as part of mutual concessions in any resolution. It was never a part of Azerbaijan. The UN Resident Coordinator in Armenia, Shombi Sharp, met with the protesters outside of the UN office.

“He attentively listened to our requests and demands, and he confirmed that the UN is not involved in the Artsakh conflict as it does not have that kind of a mandate. But he promised to pass along the demands of the Hadrut residents to the UN Secretary-General as part of special conditions or humanitarian projects. He also promised that they will try to provide humanitarian assistance after talks with the Armenian government,” Hadrut resident Meri Davtyan told reporters.
She said that Shombi Sharp was sad about the situation, especially about the fact that Azerbaijanis brutally killed civilians in Hadrut. “He said that even if both sides appeal to the UN Security Council, they are prepared to provide support,” Meri Davtyan added.
The residents of Hadrut also went to the Embassy of France yesterday, where the French ambassador to Armenia, Jonathan Lacote, said that he was surprised by Nikol Pashinyan’s status about the ceasefire agreement.
