‘The symbol of loss needs to resign’: Bright Armenia presented guide for resolving the situation

November 14,2020 19:18

Bright Armenia prepared a guide for what the country needs to do in order to resolve the current situation. The head of the Bright Armenia faction, Edmon Marukyan, spoke about this during a Facebook livestream.

“For 44 days, the entire Armenian nation, including all political forces, the media, and the diaspora united to fight a war. Experts say that the last war of that caliber was the Iraqi war decades ago. We were united. But a document was signed. The prime minister said that there would be no capitulation, and we would not sign off on any capitulation, but it was, essentially, capitulation,” Edmon Marukyan said.

According to him, aside from the war, refugees, and thousands of casualties and wounded soldiers, the situation in the country is also tense because no political action has been taken. “We attempted to hold a session of parliament, but we were not successful. Then, we tried to hold a session as a political body, which did not happen either. Then, different consultations were held among the political forces, but none of the forces said that Pashinyan needs to resign. Then what would happen? Then, propaganda spread that if Pashinyan were to resign, there would be chaos. I want to inform you that there is already chaos in our country.”

According to Edmon Marukyan, the only solution is for the symbol of loss to resign. “It’s impossible. It will be impossible to control the hatred between both sides. There will be clashes and irreversible consequences. If we have instability in the country, we will lose Armenia.”

He said that the chief of staff asked for the government to give the military seven days to resolve its problems, and then political actions could take place afterwards.

Then, Edmon Marukyan presented Bright Armenia’s vision for actions that needed to take place.

“1. The symbol of loss- the prime minister- needs to resign. A transitional government comprised of the best people in each sector is formed.

  1. Maintain good relations with Russia.

  1. Initiate negotiations surrounding unclear points in the statement signed between Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Russia. Clarify Artsakh’s right to self-determination, long-term stability and peace, agreements that reflect Armenia’s interests, and the reinstatement of OSCE Minsk Group negotiations with the intention of creating a balanced agreement.

  1. Unite the potential of Armenia, Artsakh, and the diaspora.

  1. Stabilize the internal situation, stop all clashes, reinstate national harmony, and exclude all forms of hate speech.

  1. Reinstate and strengthen all state institutions. Strictly regulate the work of law enforcement bodies.

  1. Provide the families of fallen and wounded soldiers with the appropriate assistance.

  1. Come up with a solution to take care of Artsakh-Armenians’ needs (including those of refugees), and reinstate living and working conditions in Artsakh.

  1. Develop effective methodology for fighting against the coronavirus.

  1. Invite international donors to a summit, including those from the US, China, Russia, the 27 EU states, Iran, and the Arab nations. Raise at least $1 billion for rebuilding the parts of Armenia and Artsakh that were destroyed.

  1. Implement fundamental changes in Armenian diplomacy, foreign policy, and initiatives with allied nations and others.

  1. Develop a plan for rebuilding the economy and the army.

  1. Hold snap parliamentary elections within free, fair, transparent, and equal conditions.”
