“It became obvious that the Prime Minister lied to our people once again, just as he lied to us throughout the entire war. How can you not be ashamed after all of this and continue to remain in politics? I’m surprised,” the secretary of the Bright Armenia faction, Gevorg Gorgisyan, told reporters in parliament while commenting on Putin’s statement that confirms the Minister of Foreign Affairs’ claim that conceding Shushi has never been a part of the negotiations process.
Putin’s statement on how Pashinyan should not be considered a traitor was considered a message in Yerevan that Pashinyan will remain. When asked if this was a signal to the opposition to “stay in their place,” Gorgisyan responded, “The Russian president and a former NSS director were providing the same text that Pashinyan is not a traitor, but he is basically unfit for work. It’s like if you were to go to a doctor because your leg was broken, so the doctor cut your leg off and said that he saved your life. It doesn’t matter whether or not the doctor did that deliberately or whether he did not have enough knowledge to put a cast on it. That doctor does not have the right to approach a person to treat them. If the prime minister is overthrown, an investigation will take place to see if he did that deliberately, or if he simply didn’t have the right skills.”
Pashinyan published his roadmap on Wednesday, according to which he intends to remain in office until June 2021. Throughout those six months, he intends on providing stability and safety, and he will provide his calculations in the end. In response to our question about how acceptable this is for the opposition, Gorgisyan said, “He is simply buying time in hopes that our anger will subside and he will be able to remain in power. He has nothing left to do in Armenian politics whatsoever.”
Gorgisyan said that it is not possible for elections to take place right now. First, Pashinyan needs to resign and establish a government that the citizens favor full of professionals. If elections were to take place now and the bad experience of the 90s repeated, which involved stealing ballot boxes, kidnapping people, beatings, and killings, that would not be acceptable.
