PM: ‘Realistic projects need to be implemented in the military industry’

The Military Industrial Committee met today in the Office of Government, chaired by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

In his opening speech, Prime Minister Pashinyan referred to the formation of the military-industrial complex: “After the adoption of the Law “On Military-Industrial Complex” in 2015, the military industry is one of the most discussed topics in our country. But, in fact, we can say that the results available today are not at all satisfactory. Unfortunately, we have failed to develop systems that would allow us to say that the military-industrial complex gas been established in the Republic of Armenia. Given the current situation, we may have to take stock of what happened in the previous period, identify the shortcomings, understand what realistic programs we need to take in military industry so that the military-industrial complex can become the engine of our country’s economy and industry. and on the other hand, to meet our security needs in line with modern challenges.”

Minister of High Tech Industry Hakob Arshakyan reported on the current status of the military-industrial complex and the activities underway in this area. The discussion focused on the development priorities and the steps to take ahead, taking into account the post-war realities. Questions related to the technological development of the military-industrial complex, the recruitment of qualified specialists, the promotion of technological education, the establishment of close connectivity between science and the military economy-industry were discussed during the meeting. Further reform of the education system was seen as a priority action along with the efforts to meet the demand for specialists needed for the military-industrial complex.

A list of special research and development activities for 2020-2021 was presented.
