Aravot Daily asked Lilit Aghabekyan, the press secretary of the chair of Armenia’s Civil Aviation Committee, Tatevik Revazian, to comment on political analyst Suren Sargsyan’s Facebook post where he said that an American Boeing 737 airplane that was registered in Armenia ended up in Iran.
“It was transferred or sold to Iran under unknown circumstances. It is amazing how the aviation authorities allowed it given the international sanctions against Iran. The plane was supposed to land in Armenia a few days ago, but it landed in Tehran. I must remind you that any organization (state) that sells or transfers products to Iran that are banned according to American legislation can be sanctioned by the United States,” Suren Sargsyan said.
Lilit Aghabekyan said that the Civil Aviation Committee will publish an explanation on its Facebook page. Experts are working on finding out more details, but she is not able to discuss more details.
The Civil Aviation Committee posted on Facebook, “In connection with the news circulating in the press since February 22, 2021, according to which the Boeing 737 aircraft was hijacked, the Civil Aviation Committee has not received any officially confirmed information about the hijacking from relevant authorities. At the same time, it is important to note that the Committee is aware of the airplane’s location, and it is currently operating with the aviation authorities of the countries involved. At the end of the investigation, the Committee will present additional information.”
