February 26,2021 23:25

The opposition announced that they will not let the current authorities off the hook. Aravot Daily asked the Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport, Vahram Dumanyan, if the opposition has been successful, and what he has to say regarding the unstable situation that arose in the country after the General Staff’s announcement. The minister responded, “Ask them. I am focused on my work. The ministry is carrying out its daily activities and we do not have the right to slack off.”

When asked if the Prime Minister’s and government’s resignation is simply an agenda and the main issue in their opinion, the minister said, “No, I do not think so.”

Regarding the General Staff’s announcement, Dumanyan said that everyone must carry out their work- the work they are responsible for.

When asked his opinion on how the protesters on Freedom Square said that the current authorities are clinging to power and they do not want to resign, Dumanyan responded, “Did they say something like that to me?” We explained that they said that about the members of government, and he is a minister; therefore, he is a government official. He said, “The person who said that didn’t say it right.”

Regarding Levon Aronian’s announcement, we asked the minister what experts decided that Aronian no longer has potential. The minister responded, “I have not heard such an opinion. Ask Aronian.” When we attempted to clarify why he let it get to the point where Aronian wants to leave the country, Dumanyan’s response was strange. “Why did you let it get to the point where Levon Aronian wants to leave?” When we responded in shock, the minister responded, “What about me? Did he say that I caused it?”

Moreover, the minister said that this is “the athlete’s right, he decided to leave.” “I do not consider this to be the fault of the ministry. I am sorry that he made such a decision, and I value his achievements in chess. We were proud of his achievements and how he represented Armenia. I am surprised that he made such a decision. I would be happy if he reconsidered.” The minister believes that there are no official responsibilities towards Aronian that the ministry did not carry out.
