March 30,2021 16:25

The deputies asked questions to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Ara Aivazian at the regular sitting of the NA Standing Committee on European Integration.

The MP Taguhi Tovmasyan was interested in the issues on ensuring foreign security of our country and the status of Artsakh.

“Today, we must analyze correctly that why the September 27 happened, take lessons and do appropriate corrections. We must think about the existing challenges, concentrate on the global vision. I do not agree with the opinion that our foreign policy and diplomacy were failed. During 26 years, our diplomacy successfully implemented the important mission assigned by different authorities of the country, that we shall preserve the status quo, except the four-day war of 2016, and we succeeded doing it. We should make all efforts and achieve the peaceful settlement in the format of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship. We all witnessed on different occasions that we were very close to the settlement of the problem,” the Minister noted, adding that recently the President of Azerbaijan again reaffirmed that he was not ready for the settlement of the issue through peaceful negotiations. “September 27 took place, because Turkey was also actively involved,” Ara Aivazian added. According to him, the war ended, however the conflict was not settled. “At this moment, when the situation continues to be difficult in the region, we must make all our efforts for achieving the final de-escalation. We must be realistic to refrain from emotions and from the drastic foreign policy changes. Today, more than ever, our foreign policy became extremely pragmatic and flexible. I do not open brackets, but you can be sure that it is so,” the Minister concluded.
