During a questions and answers session of parliament, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan responded to a question of what the procedure for his resignation will be like prior to the planned snap parliamentary elections on June 20th. Pashinyan said, “I am preparing to resign in the last ten days of April. After that, in accordance with agreements made with the president and the forces in parliament, elections for Prime Minister will take place seven days later.
My Step will appoint me as its candidate because the Constitution demands that a candidate be appointed. The other parties will not appoint anyone. My Step will not elect a prime minister. I will be appointed a second time, but I will not be elected. In accordance with the law, the National Assembly will then dissolve, after which elections will be held on June 20th. Anyone who tries to take a different path and deviate from political agreements will commit political suicide. What will happen? My Step will elect me to be Prime Minister, and that will close the subject. I do not think that anyone will try to commit political suicide.”
