The transformation of professionals

April 30,2021 11:00

There was once a tough leader who, although not very educated, was inarguably intelligent. He said that professionals change everything. I don’t know how decisive they are, but I can say for sure that they are an indicator of something. In this case, it is interesting to follow “the evolution of professionals” over the last three years.

I greatly appreciate Davit Ananyan, Mane Tandilyan, Artak Zeynalyan, Smbat Gogyan, Sarhat Petrosyan, and a few others and their efforts to serve the state. They all honestly believed that the situation in the country has changed and they can cause the changes to be irreversible with their service. (I must admit that although I did not share the revolutionary euphoria, I did have some hopes in the beginning). Then, they left the Armenian state system for different reasons with different explanations.

The aspirations of the high-ranking officials who have maintained their positions till today, and especially those who took on those positions after our defeat, do not provoke the same unequivocal attitude in me. I believe that there is no one who is so insane among them as to believe that being a part of the defeated government is not discrediting.

There is also no one insane among the parliamentary deputies. Those who left My Step or resigned are worthy of respect. I can understand those who stayed but are not speaking out; they have enough shame and conscientiousness. But those who remained who talk, sneer, and squawk… well, let’s not judge people too harshly. In any case, when they aggressively “destroy” the opposition or they speak about some “achievements” and “accomplishments” of their government without growing embarrassed, that is a sign of incomprehensible psychological traits to me.

Being a state official or deputy, if not based on personal material interests or ambition, demands some idealism, in addition to overcoming the snobbery characteristic of the intelligent class. Therefore, when a new government is formed, the demand for the aforementioned idealists will increase, and if not them, then people similar to them will form part of the state government.

It is important to ask what I understand when I say a “new government.” It’s very clear: a government that will not be led by Kocharyan or Pashinyan. They are already “old” and, in my opinion, very similar to each other.
