The power does not belong to the people in any way

May 05,2021 11:54

On Monday, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, among other things, announced that there would be no change of government in Armenia.

Some of the opposition members understood that (or they at least pretended to understand) the Prime Minister said he would never leave the government and would rule for life. I believe that is Pashinyan’s wish; he will do anything possible and impossible (including causing clashes among citizens) as long as he doesn’t have to sacrifice his government to anyone. And the reason is clear; just as he is going after the representatives of the former government, any future government will go after him and several of his teammates ten times as much.

It is right to give assurances to the incumbent leader that he is safe and secure (I understand that people who seek revenge do not like that) because otherwise, he will cling to his chair with his teeth while knowing what awaits him.

But in this speech specifically, the Prime Minister meant something else. In his opinion, the power belongs to the people after the 2018 revolution in Armenia and, therefore, it is not possible to take that power away from the hands of the people. The problem is that “the power belongs to the people” formula (which is written in our constitutions, as well as in many other countries) is a hoax and hypocrisy. This formula was invented and used for more than 3 centuries by clever political magicians to rule over the people. No matter how the government was formed by fair or unjust elections, inheritance, or revolutions or coups, the power NEVER did and does not belong to the people in ANY COUNTRY.

Power belongs to those who make decisions in the state; the elite, so to speak. Not the “fake” or “real” elite that has been referenced a lot recently, but the true elite. Any deputy of My Step, regardless of their mental capabilities, can have an impact on decisions being made (at least through a vote), but I cannot. Therefore, they are the elite, and I am not.

Until 2018, we had an elite with corrupted minds, and now we have an ignorant, insane, and irresponsible elite. Which is more catastrophic? Think for yourselves.

In established and especially large states, certain mechanisms are simply in place to prevent irresponsible adventurers from coming to power. It has nothing to do with the “power of the people,” it is the “defense mechanisms” of the state. Can you imagine someone like Pashinyan being in charge of the “democratic” United States by the accepted standards, or the “undemocratic” Russia and China by the same standards? Mankind would certainly disappear.
