High-school pupils who have excellent marks and study in different regions of Armenia are from various schools, different residences, have various preferences and look at life from a different angle. But they all have one commonality, they won in the Republican Olympiad in biology.
Though, the pupils brilliantly master the biology subject, but they know only the theoretical part of it. On May 5, for correcting that problem, the NA deputy Hovhannes Hovhannisyan invited them to the YSU (Yerevan State University) Microbial Biotechnologies and Biofuel Innovation Center. The Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Karen Trchunyan has met them there and has personally presented the center full of state-of-the-art equipment where all conditions are ensured to experiment by international criteria. In Deputy Minister’s opinion, it is very important that the pupils’ acquaintance with higher educational institutions and especially such innovation laboratories should begin from schools. It will help them to understand and correctly get oriented when choosing a profession in future.
It was a surprise for the winners of the Republican Olympiad to meet with the Director of the Institute of Molecular Biology of the National Academy of Science Arsen Arakelyan. He has given professional books to the pupils as a gift, being sure that one day they will become target reader. The pupils were mainly interested in the work of the laboratory studying genetic diseases. They also asked a lot of questions on COVID 19.
Taking a tour in the expert rooms of the institute, the pupils’ excitement grew minute by minute. At first, it seemed that they had professional clear orientation – future doctors, but in the end of the meeting they started to hesitate. The visit to scientific centers turned their professional orientation towards science.
