A memorial corner dedicated to the first nurse, Yekaterina Bakunina, opened at the Dilijan Geological Museum yesterday.

Bakunina was the first nurse and is considered to be a symbol of charity.

In an interview with Aravot Daily, one of the organizers of the event, Russian spiritual leader head of the charity foundation named after Yekaterina Bakunina, Araman Sanilov, said that Bakunina was the daughter of the St. Petersburg mayor, and when the first Russo-Turkish War began, Yekaterina went to the battlefield as a military nurse.

“It is thanks to her that the nursing profession was established. However, Yekaterina’s name was forgotten after the revolution, and in order for this wonderful woman’s memory to stay strong, we have opened museums in several places in her honor. And now a memorial corner has opened in Yekaterina’s honor in Dilijan, since Yekaterina came to Dilijan during the Second Russo-Turkish War and was the head of the Red Cross mission. And it is important for us that Yekaterina’s memorial corner was opened in Dilijan. We want our cooperation with Dilijan to be continuous.”

During the event, certificates of thanks and medals in honor of Bakunina were distributed to the nurses of Martuni and Dilijan.
