“The Prosecutor General’s visit to the National Assembly remains imperative. We have a task not to cancel the provision on the immunity of the deputy,” Taguhi Tovmasyan, chair of the NA Standing Committee on Human Rights and Public Affairs, stated during a meeting in parliament on Monday regarding the court’s decision to arrest Armen Charchyan.
Taguhi Tovmasyan, chair of the NA Standing Committee on Human Rights Protection and Public Affairs, invited the current and former Human Rights Defenders of the Republic of Armenia and former chairs of the committee to discuss the sectoral priorities. The first Human Rights Defender of Armenia Larisa Alaverdyan, former deputy and chair of the same committee, Aram Safaryan, and Ani Samsonyan were also present. “We did not come to start from scratch, but to continue the work of others,” Tovmasyan said.

According to Taguhi Tovmasyan, the court decision to detain Armen Charchyan without overcoming the deputy’s immunity is above everything. “This reprehensible way of working should be discussed by the parliament.” She said that the deputies of the Armenia faction, Mkhitar Zakaryan and Artur Sargsyan, are in the same situation. They are detained and in solitary confinement. This week, Taguhi Tovmasyan plans to visit them.
Touching upon the peculiarities of the sphere, Taguhi Tovmasyan spoke about the issue of implementing the right to life of the inhabitants of the border settlements. She also said that Armenia also has a problem with the order of free movement of journalists in the National Assembly, which was not discussed with relevant people and organizations. “It turns out that the government decides what it wants, and the others have to come to terms with those decisions.” She also referred to the issue of the physicist, where brutal force was used against citizens, including minors. “In the new Armenia, it seems that this way of working should not have happened. We need to understand how to stand by our citizens so that they are protected.”
