“What should Azerbaijan’s compromise be?”

October 25,2021 13:13

The United States and France are not inclined to succumb to blackmail in Moscow, even in the smallest detail, and the consequences will be very severe for them, said member of the “We are against foreign language schools” initiative Armen Hovhannisyan in an interview with Aravot Daily.

  • So far, of course, there are also statements from Russian public circles that Armenians should convert to Orthodoxy. In any case, the authors of such statements enjoy the serious support of various circles. Given the demarche sponsored and encouraged by the Armenian government against the Armenian Apostolic Church in 2018, what problems can we face?

The Byzantine emperors, the Georgian kings, the Russian tsars and the Soviet government pursued a policy of “Greekization” of the Armenians. With great demographic and political losses, we overcame that pressure. I think some insignificant Korotchenko and the ending regime can not claim any success. It seems to me that this is rather an occasion to publicly emphasize the fact that Armenians are “not true Christians” so that even the questions of a part of the Russian society regarding supporting Azerbaijan are raised. The participation of Aliyev’s Moscow connection God Nisanov in the gathering of religious leaders says a lot. Huge sums of money were spent to buy the kindness of the Russian elite. Now is the time to pay off the debts of Korotchenko, Shevchenko, and Gundyaev.

  • Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke about the clarification of the borders between Armenia and Azerbaijan, saying that compromises are required and that it should be done with maps near the Russian side along the post-Soviet borders. Putin once spoke about difficult solutions, as a result of which we had war, huge human and territorial losses, refugees, units of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces are in the Armenian territory, a part of the Armenian interstate road is under Azerbaijani control, and units of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces in the Armenian border are carrying out active construction projects with the tacit and verbal consent of the Armenian authorities. What other compromises are we talking about, and what should Azerbaijan’s compromise be?

Since the current government is ready to give in even to things that prefer Azerbaijani expectations, “change” sounds a bit ridiculous.  Really, what should be Azerbaijan’s compromise? This message should be considered in a broader context and it is also addressed to the Minsk Group Co-Chairs that without the recognition of Russia’s “special role” and at least partial implementation of the Russian-Turkish-Azerbaijani road map, a settlement is impossible. I think there is no need to convince the Armenian and Azerbaijani sides. Azerbaijan is a participant in the plan, and Armenia agrees with everything. The response of the West will be very fast and, I think, more sensitive for the Russians. The United States and France are not inclined to back down from the blackmail of Moscow, even in small details, and the consequences will be very severe for them.
