“I suppose there are some obstacles from the Azerbaijani side”: Pashinyan on the Co-Chairs’ visit to the region

November 08,2021 12:00

“The offer of peace is not Azerbaijan’s monopoly. We have offered peace ourselves and we have done it several times. The statement that Armenia is not responding is very strange,” said RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in an interview with Petros Ghazaryan on Public TV on November 7 in response to the question about how Azerbaijan states that it has made a peace offer to Armenia, but there is no response.

According to him, “Armenia has responded to these statements. Armenia has said it is ready, and we have also stressed that the goal of the negotiation format within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs is to reach a peace agreement. And we have said that yes, we are ready for those discussions and we imagine that those discussions should take place as a result of the work done in the format of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs, in particular the inclusion of the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. In general, we have adopted an agenda to open a peaceful era and we have received a mandate from the people to open that era in the snap parliamentary elections. We have registered it in the government’s program.”

The Prime Minister said that in Armenia’s view, the peace negotiation process is in the format of the OSCE Minsk Group. Touching upon the question that the foreign ministers met within the framework of that format, then there was an announcement that the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs should visit the region, but there is no concrete action so far, Pashinyan answered, “Recently, a delegation from the United States arrived in Armenia, which also included the US Co-Chair of the OSCE Minsk Group Andrew Shaffer, and I raised the question of why the visit had not taken place before. He said that they are working to carry out the visit and I think, yes, time has passed, it could have already happened. I suppose there are some obstacles from the Azerbaijani side.”
