There is no internal resistance

November 13,2021 10:44

Although some of my colleagues think that Azerbaijan has no leverage to put pressure on us besides the captives and it will not take any action against us, I do think that is the case. In this case, I agree with the leader of the Republic party, Aram Sargsyan, that the next step will be to set up a customs point in Lachin, which will actually mean the isolation of Artsakh from Armenia. Indeed, the logic of the enemy’s actions suggests this. Perhaps people will argue that there are Russian peacekeepers in the Lachin corridor, but that does not convince me. There are also Russians in Syunik, but that did not stop the Azeris from occupying the interstate highway. So I would not rely on the Russians. After all, peacekeepers do not have a mandate to do what they want to do. For example, when an Armenian civilian is killed in front of peacekeepers, should they retaliate?

Why are Azerbaijan’s new encroachments possible? As I wrote in the previous article, the first reason is that the tripartite declaration of November 9, 2020 is not an international treaty, it is a document of our defeat, and the winning party will continue to humiliate us as long as there is no legal force and no major international  document approved by the players.

The second reason is that in Armenia, there is in fact no mass resistance to the policies of the current authorities. Imagine such a situation: it is time for the regular sitting of the deputies-government in the National Assembly.  An MP from the Armenian faction asks the Prime Minister about the disruption of schools due to difficulties in the supply of bread in the villages of the Goris region or restrictions on the movement of teachers. How will Pashinyan answer?  Approximately as follows: “Let your boss (meaning, of course, Kocharyan – AA) take care of it in time and spend part of his billions on solving those problems.” (I present the approximate text, in fact he will definitely find more “reproachful” or “degrading” words).

From the point of view of classical (Aristotelian) logic, this reversal does not stand up to any criticism. But I am sure that for the majority of the population of Armenia (at least for the 680,000 citizens who voted for the Civil Contract in the last elections) this answer seems quite convincing. Moreover, when the residents of those villages flee from problems like daily bread, school, and other things to Russia, they will be sure that their problems arose because something was not done in 2005 or, say, 1965.

And it turns out that every nation deserves its government.
