On December 9th in St. Petersburg on the Alley of Heroes of the Moscow Victory Park took place the official opening ceremony of the bust monument to Nelson Stepanyan, the legendary pilot of the Second World War, twice Hero of the Soviet Union.
At the beginning of the event, Head of the Moscow District Administration of St. Petersburg Vladimir Ushakov, Member of the Public Chamber of St. Petersburg Nikolay Burov, Chairman of the NGO «The Armenians of St. Petersburg» Alexander Nazarov and Member of the Board of the Regional Public Organization «The Armenians of St. Petersburg» Raffi Harutyunyan removed the veil from the monument.
The opening ceremony was attended by: Head of the Administration of the Moskovsky district of St. Petersburg Vladimir Ushakov, Member of the Public Chamber of St. Petersburg, famous Russian artist Nikolai Burov, one of the founders of The Maritime Assembly of the city of Gatchina, honorary Citizen of Gatchina Yuri Nazarov, Author of the bust of Nelson Stepanyan Pavel Ignatiev, granddaughter of Nelson Stepanyan Victoria Stepanyan with Nelson Stepanyan’s great-grandson George Stepanyan.
At the end of the ceremony is the Chairman of Regional Public Organization «The Armenians of St. Petersburg» Alexander Nazarov thanked the invited guests and participants.

On the same day, in the Exhibition Hall of the Moskovsky district were awarded certificates of appreciation to patrons and the creative team of the project for the construction of the bust monument. The monument to the defender of Leningrad Nelson Stepanyan was made on the initiative of the Regional Public Organization «The Armenians of St. Petersburg». The authors of the Author of the monument Pavel Ignatiev, chief architect Yuri Egiazarov, architect Lev Allahverdyan.
