Zareh Sinanyan, High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs of the Prime Minister’s Office, addressing the issue of closing Armenian studies centers in the Diaspora at an online press conference on December 23, expressed the opinion that Armenia is interested in maintaining and financing those centers, but the opportunities are limited. According to him, the state should train qualified Armenian studies specialists, Turkologists, and Azeri scholars who will also work abroad.
“I am worried that we do not know our enemies. We need to understand our enemies in order to understand how to deal with them. The problem is that in a deep sense the Armenian people do not know the Turks,” said Zareh Sinanyan.
He continued, “We have been living with them since the 11th century when the Seljuks began to invade Vaspurakan, but we still do not understand who we are dealing with, what interesting phenomenon we are dealing with, how dangerous it is for us, and how to find the key to deal with them. We have not done that so far and because of that we seem to be under constant attack.”
