“There are low-quality programs – scandals, intrigues, investigations- that remind me of all this,” said Ruben Rubinyan, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly and Special Representative of the Armenian side for normalizing relations between Armenia and Turkey, referring to the opposition’s claim that there was no document stating that a representative was appointed, and this was done with the Turkish side behind people’s backs.
“It is not a position, but a function. I am the NA Deputy Speaker, but I carry out the function of a special representative, which was given to me publicly and documented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. What is incomprehensible here?” Rubinyan asked. “You say that you learn about everything from Turkey, so far there has not been an event that our departments have not informed you about. In this case, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Or, when you say that there are secret processes, it
makes me even angrier. Throughout the history of Armenia, negotiations have taken place with Turkey under all the presidents: Levon Ter-Petrossian, Robert Kocharyan, and Serzh Sargsyan. What do you think, what percentage of those negotiations were open, how many were closed? Was the private portion of football diplomacy under Serzh Sargsyan? No, it started during Robert Kocharyan’s presidency. Were there secret processes between Armenia and Turkey? Why were no secret talks announced during Robert Kocharyan’s presidency?” Rubinyan asked the opposition. He expressed conviction that the working style of the opposition leaves the impression of hypocrisy.
