This afternoon, a group of ARF Dashnaktsutyun youths held a symbolic demonstration in front of the EU Delegation to Armenia on February 11 called the “Democracy Requiem,” where they held a mourning ceremony, placing flowers and candles in front of the office accompanied by mourning music.
The protesters also expressed their dissatisfaction with the activities of the Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia Andrea Wiktorin. “Mrs. Andrea Wiktorin is the person who should send signals to the EU about the situation in the country, the violations of democracy, but this woman has become a servant of the government. For years this woman has been silent, seeing the obvious failures of democracy in the country.

After the mourning ceremony, the participants of the demonstration stood in silence for a few minutes, opening their posters. “You are raising a new dictator in the Caucasus,” “RIP Democracy in Armenia,” and other quotes. Sevak Nazaryan, a member of the board of the ARF Youth Union, expressed an opinion that recently, the low level of democracy in Armenia registers a real opponent.
“An incident took place in Armenia during the last week, when a criminal case was initiated against a judge for conducting his independent judicial process. This had one goal – to abolish the judiciary. Why did we carry out this symbolic demonstration in front of the European Union? We all know that the EU has clear values and gives clear assessments of the level of democracy in different countries every year. What the EU Representative in Armenia, Andrea Wiktorin, is doing is just a false report to the European Union, on the basis of which the EU makes assessments of democracy in Armenia that do not present the real picture.”
Sevak Nazaryan also said that they do not expect a meeting with the representative of the office or the head of the delegation, but only want to convey two messages to the head of the delegation Andrea Wiktorin. The first is that they have a clear assessment of his activities. “It is to cooperate with the Armenian government, to transfer false information about the democracy of Armenia to the European Union. Our second message to the European Union is that this woman who represents you disgraces you and the values you have been fighting for and spreading for decades.”
P.S. By the way, after these demonstrations in front of the EU Delegation to Armenia for the second day in a row, a support letter was published on the Facebook page of the US Embassy in Armenia: “We are proud to cooperate with the EU delegation in Armenia.”
