Artur Vanetsyan: “I call on people to come to Freedom Square, to stand up for the country, the great homeland that belongs to them, Artsakh and Armenia”

April 19,2022 14:02

Artur Vanetsyan, the leader of the Homeland party and the leader of the I Have Honor parliamentary faction, said that their supporters have been on an indefinite sit-in strike in Liberty Square since April 17, expressing strong disagreement with the current authorities’ intention to hand over Artsakh, the policy endangering Armenia’s security and territorial integrity. They spent the night in Freedom Square. On the morning of April 18, Aravot spoke with Artur Vanetsyan.

– Mr. Vanetsyan, how did the night go considering that there were incidents with the police in the evening?

– The night passed calmly, there was such a big flow of people that between 02:30 and 03:00 I asked our fellow citizens to go home, rest, come this afternoon, and join our protest again. I consider such a beginning successful. I am very excited and sure that everything will be fine.

– Are there many supporters?

– Almost all the real opposition forces came yesterday and today and expressed solidarity. Today, there is no question of supporting me, our party, or our bloc. The question of our country and our existence is on the table. And it is the initiative that needs to be supported. Who has the goal that we have set before us? I think all intelligent, national, patriotic people should support each other.

– Do you have anything to say to society?

– I call on people to come to Freedom Square, to stand up for the country, the great homeland that belongs to them, Artsakh and Armenia.
