Stay within the safe topics

April 20,2022 10:30

When the well-known “characters” in the “pre-revolutionary” parliaments, whom the opposition called “Lfik,” “Artak of SAS,” “Shmays,” “Mher of Tokhmakh,” etc., tried to say two words in the corridors of the National Assembly, it amused everyone. Journalists were running after them because, in modern parlance, it was “a good topic to talk about.” (By the way, these heroes are no longer funny, because they performed their “anti-hero” functions for the opposition propaganda and became quite “respectable businessmen”).

But these people, no matter how much they lacked knowledge in some areas, were not stupid at all from the point of view of everyday life and understood very well that foreign policy is an area they are not authorized to talk about, and if they “blurt out” something wrong, their “boss” (Serzh Sargsyan) will get angry.

Therefore, they limited themselves to “moral” topics, and when journalists asked, for example, about the Artsakh issue, they diplomatically avoided answering, saying something like, “What the boss does, he does right.” In short, they were smart enough to understand that these topics were beyond their expertise.

The deputies of the current ruling faction of the National Assembly are as aware of foreign policy issues as Shmays or Mher of Tokhmakh. But unlike the latter, they are so self-confident that they have the courage to talk about topics of which they are absolutely unaware. There is a wonderful way to “disperse” dangerous issues in the corridors of the National Assembly: “Go and ask your rulers and clients about it” (with hoarse voices).

This is a very good way not to talk. I would recommend using this trick more often as the electorate likes it. The following option is also harmless. Suppose a journalist asks whether Artsakh should be part of Azerbaijan, to which the Civil Contract member answers, “well, the former were stealing,” or “Serzh was negotiating with Aliyev to hand over Shushi.” Such judgments do not pose a threat to Artsakh and Armenia. They are again answers from the hearts of the citizens.

It seems that it is possible to stay within the framework of this domestic political agenda and not enter the diplomatic coffin. But no, the deputies elected by the people are more ambitious than the unelected ones, they do not want to admit that they do not cut their minds on some issues. And they try to talk about very complex and delicate issues, thereby harming our security.

Canadian educator Lawrence Peter has formulated one of the most fundamental principles of the work hierarchy: “Every person strives for his level of incompetence.”
