Gegham Manukyan, MP from the “Hayastan” (Armenia) faction, told “Aravot” that they have never announced that they won’t return to parliament, so their return to parliament is not ruled out.
“I don’t agree with the opinion that the movement extinguishes. The qualitative and human change proves the opposite. As for Edom Marukyan, I think he said that it disturbs the negotiation process: a woman who presented herself as a relative of one of the POWs said that if you did not burn the Turkish flag a week ago, our boys would have been returned. I was shocked, even though it is understandable that the person fell a victim to such cheap manipulation. I don’t know has Nikol made Edmon Marukyan a victim of his manipulation that the opposition holds rallies and complicates the negotiation process? It’s a matter of age, but I will advise Edmon Marukyan, for instance, to ask Davit Shahnazaryan and ask him when the international community was pressuring Armenia to withdraw its army from Karvachar and the opposition was holding crowded rallies in Armenia against those programs, what was the situation of the foreign policy? Maybe Edmon Marukyan will come out from Nikols and his own manipulations.”
We asked him if at some moment they will realize that the movement doesn’t have any results, will they go back to the parliament and will you work there? Gegham Manukyan answered, “First of all, there won’t be any concession from the struggle. Secondly, the real movement already has at least two results: the authorities are more cautious and terrified in their actions and all those things there were ready to do at the request of the enemy or the others much faster and without resistance. Today they are more cautious and don’t dare to take drastic actions. Thus, the movement, with its slogans and demands, has results. The second one is a slightly emotional topic, but the political consequences impact the public psychology. If we recall the public mood on May 9, 2021, even the emphasis of the speeches, and our compatriots slightly straightened their backs on this May 9, their dignity is slightly restored, and the hope to succeed in the future is awakened. This is the consequence of the movement. And the movement has become younger, national – many citizens participate in our rallies with their families. The movement has gained femininity, women participate more actively, and the movement has become more combative.”
