The 18th Aram Khachaturian International Competition will start on June 6 with an opening concert, then the main stages of the competition will take place, and on June 13 it will end at the Aram Khachaturian Concert Hall with an awards ceremony. This time the cellists will compete. In addition to the main prizes, there are also special prizes.

The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Khachaturian International Competition is Armen Smbatyan, and the Chairman of the Jury is Eduard Wolfson from Switzerland. Among the members of the jury are famous musicians from different countries: Dmitry Yablonsky, Yin Zhao, Oleg Sendetsky, Christopher Running, Ishtvan Vardan, and Martin Engstrom.

The competition is held with the support of the RA Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports, the organizer of the Khachatryan competition is the Aram Khachaturian-Competition Cultural Foundation. The press conference also touched upon the tenders under sanctions, in particular, the Tchaikovsky International Competition.

“I have heard various rumors that in the United States and Europe, it is forbidden to perform Tchaikovsky. I think everything is a bit exaggerated. In the United States, the Americans invited Tchaikovsky to come at the end of the 19th century and open Carnegie Hall. In any case, in my opinion, there are values that can not be taken to politics at all. Politics is a temporary thing, but Tchaikovsky and Aram Khachaturian are eternal values,” Armen Smbatyan said in response to a journalist’s question.
