On June 9, Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Vahe Gevorgyan received a delegation led by Kara McDonald, the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor, who was on a regional visit to Armenia.
The interlocutors commended the high level of current Armenian-American strategic dialogue in the field of democracy and human rights protection. Both sides have also stressed the importance of its continued expansion.
The Deputy Minister touched upon the democratic reforms taking place in Armenia in recent years, as well as the achievements in the field of human rights protection and current challenges.
Vahe Gevorgyan briefed on the humanitarian issues resulting from the war unleashed by Azerbaijan against Artsakh. He particularly emphasized the issue of immediate return of Armenian prisoners of war and captured civilians illegally detained in Azerbaijan, as well as the urgent need of protection of constantly vandalized Armenian cultural and religious heritage.
