Shushan Petrosyan: “Artsakh is one of the states of Armenia. Let’s return Artsakh completely to its former borders, and then move on to Greater Armenia”

The Resistance movement organized a cultural evening on France Square, during which a conversation was held with singer, RA Honored Artist, and former deputy of the NA RPA faction Shushan Petrosyan. According to her, the Homeland is not only the Republic of Armenia. The idea of Armenia is much more extensive and a larger concept than the territory of the Republic of Armenia. It includes Armenia, the Diaspora, and of course, Artsakh.

Shushan Petrosyan said, “Artsakh should not be divided, because Artsakh is one of the states of Armenia, like my grandfather’s Erzrum, my other grandfather’s Tigranakert, my one grandmother’s Syunik, my other grandmother’s Marash. For me, the idea of a narrow-minded person is that Artsakh is something else. No, Artsakh is our gate, the most important pillar of our existence, but it is one of the states.” She recalled Monte’s words, unfortunately, as an intermediate solution, Artsakh is a separate state today, and naturally, one day it must unite.

The singer responded, “We know its prehistory, but by and large we know that Artsakh is not a province. I love Artsakh very much. For me, for my generation, who realize the mystery of Artsakh, understand that Artsakh is the dignity of an Armenian, the first returned state, giving up Artsakh means giving up the dream of a Greater Armenia. We have lived with that dream for a whole century, a whole century, for seven years already.”

Petrosyan, addressing the audience, asked who wants a greater Armenia. “We do,” those present responded. Then Shushan Petrosyan continued, “Let’s return Artsakh completely to its former borders, then let’s move on to Greater Armenia. They are not an idea, they are concrete plans, they are not an idea, the idea is fluid, there must be a goal and nothing must break you, so that there is no step to say, well. Well, it’s not good. There should not be that good in this struggle either, there should be no despair. It is a battle of existence, either we will be or we will not be. The most emotional moment in Artsakh. On April 23, when I was marching with torches, there was a torchlight procession from “Kaltsevo” to Vazgen Sargsyan Street, when they were chanting “unification.” I started crying and sobbing. I found myself in the Opera Square of my youth, when we were chanting the same thing. After so many centuries, having acquired all that, we have to chant “unification” again because some idiots decided the status of Artsakh instead of us. It is unacceptable.”
