“We have a government that serves the interests of enemies more”: Tevan Poghosyan

July 06,2022 18:03

“Unfortunately, the Constitution has remained with us as an idea on paper. It does not become the law of our social life by which we have to live… If all institutions worked properly to implement the text mentioned there, perhaps we would be happy that we have something that is our common law,” said Tevan Poghosyan, head of the International Center for Development, at the Hayeli press club.

According to him, “The foundations should be sought in the first constitutional processes. Even today, the issue of adopting the same Constitution remains in doubt whether this nation has ever voted for the Constitution, whether it has been adopted or not. Accepting it is one thing, but after that comes the second problem. How does any law, including the Constitution, come into force? Do we not have an attitude of selective law, and not only towards the Constitution…?”

Tevan Poghosyan said that the authorities initially talked about creating love and tolerance, but after coming to power, it was a completely different picture. “We appeared in front of the same broken trough… As if we are a nation that is afraid of victory… As if we have lost fire in the hands of victories, as soon as we have a victory, we think about what to do to try to surrender those victories in the next period… All the actions that are happening today, they prove that we have a government that serves the interests of the enemies more, we have a legislative power that meekly obeys and does what they want, and if we had the opportunity to fight for the independence of the judiciary, in the end, it didn’t happen and again. Everything was broken…”
