Ignoring the invitation of the French and American ambassadors to Azerbaijan to visit Shushi was not a pro-Armenian move, but rather a demarche to the Russian side. This is the opinion of political commentator Armen Baghdasaryan. In a conversation with Aravot.am, Baghdasaryan, commenting on the move of the ambassadors, noted that the West, in particular the USA and France, do not want to cooperate with the Russian Federation in any way, even in the settlement of the Karabakh conflict.
“In other words, it should be understood as a refusal to cooperate with Russia in any format. I don’t think it was a pro-Armenian step because our hope in the process of settlement of the problem was that the international community would, however, accept that the Artsakh problem is not settled, and the question of status still exists, even though Azerbaijan claims the opposite.”
The political commentator believes that now, when the ambassadors refuse to discuss the issue on the same platform with the Russian Federation, the Armenian side does not gain anything from it, and considering it a moral victory or a slap to Azerbaijan, does not give us anything in real terms.

“Everyone is trying to secure some benefit for themselves from the status quo created in our region, and unfortunately, all parties will try to snatch that benefit at the expense of Armenia’s interests, because the defeated and weak side is Armenia.”
According to Baghdasaryan, the main opponent of the West today is the Russian Federation, the West has serious expectations from Azerbaijan in the field of energy cooperation. “Taking all this into consideration, the West will not be pro-Armenian in our region, they will try to woo Azerbaijan, pull it to their side, and do this at the expense of Armenian interests. There is no need to be excited by that step from the ambassadors. One should try to understand what kind of trade is taking place between the West, Russia, and Azerbaijan. Unfortunately, Armenia and Artsakh are not involved in all of this, we have turned into a subject at whose expense they trade, and there is no need to be happy when that trade gets hotter or more aggressive at some point.”
