“The current situation has a maximum term of two and a half years. After two and a half years, the Russian peacekeepers will be withdrawn from Azerbaijan. I am sure that Azerbaijan will raise this issue,” stated political scientist Armen Baghdasaryan during a press conference held at the Sputnik Armenia multimedia press center. According to him, therefore even this tense, difficult, and dangerous situation will change in one way or another after two and a half years, if there are no serious developments in border demarcation and demarcation works and communications.
When asked what serious development means, he answered, “If the Armenian authorities offer Azerbaijan three routes, if Azerbaijan tries to use them, a provocation will occur. On that occasion, Azerbaijan, raising international noise, will completely close the road connecting Armenia to Artsakh.”
According to the political scientist, the Minsk Group is in a dying state. “Perhaps we should try to restore it, because unlike Azerbaijan, the Minsk Group has recorded that the Artsakh problem has not been finally resolved and there is a question of the status of Artsakh. Moreover, since 1994, it has been recorded in all the documents of the Minsk Group that Artsakh will also participate in the final decision on the Artsakh issue, because that is the position. Thanks to this, we will try to always keep the issue of the Artsakh settlement up-to-date. We should have no illusions that the USA or France, the collective West, protects Armenian interests.

They do not come here to protect Armenian interests. There is a lot of trade going on in our region, and the West does not want to be left out of that process. Russia, Turkey, and Azerbaijan are trying to get the most out of the defeat of the Armenian side. The West is also coming to benefit in its turn. Everyone comes here for their own interests, including the Russian peacekeepers. They did not come here to ensure the security of the Armenian people, they came to protect the interests of the Russian Federation. If the interests of RA and RF coincide at any point, it should be taken advantage of.”
