“Azerbaijan’s appetite for the sovereign territory of Armenia has always been known. This is not the last aggression, they will try again to encroach on the sovereign territories of Armenia. They always say that they have an eye on Syunik, especially since they could not achieve their goal and get a corridor through Syunik,” said Alexan Keoshkerian, a member of the central board of the Central Committee of the Armenian Democratic Party of Armenia, in a conversation with Aravot.am.
“The international opposition was much more than the previous times. I can’t say anything about CSTO’s role, but I think the statements of the West, the USA, and France have curbed it. It is enough to emphasize the resistance of our army. Under the opposition of our soldiers and the pressure of the international community, Azerbaijan did not achieve its goal this time, and I think it will not be able to from now on,” Aleksan Keoshkerian expressed his conviction. Referring to the visit of the speaker of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, and the question of what we expect from international actors in general, Alexan Keoshkerian stated: “I don’t have high expectations from the West.
Whether we like it or not, we have Russia as a strategic ally, which today has its own issues, is embroiled in the Ukrainian war, and has “dependencies” on Turkey. Russia’s influence is weakened this time, but it is wrong to fully rely on the West, because the West has its own accounts and questions. Yes, Pelosi came and supported her, made statements that we cannot process, especially the allusion to Iran. Iran is our neighbor and friend. We do not completely agree with what Pelosi said, but we are grateful for the cooperation and political support. We do not agree to become the country that will isolate Iran. Iran is one of the countries that is extremely against handing over the corridor to Azerbaijan. Connection with Iran is a way of life for us. We should not be exploited to isolate Iran in the region. It is not in our interests.”
