At the end of the tour organized to get acquainted with the situation created as a result of large-scale war operations in Gegharkunik, the deputy head of the Armenian Armed Forces General Staff, Major General Arakel Martikyan, presented to the ambassadors, representatives of the diplomatic mission, and journalists the operational situation at the moment and the last few days. “You already know that on September 13 at 00:05, Azerbaijan started quite aggressive large-scale military operations in three directions. Why do I refer to it as a large-scale operation?
Because offensive operations of army troops, accompanied by rocket-artillery and drone fire, began at once. After the agreement on November 10, 2020, and other signed documents, this is already the third large-scale operation aimed mainly at our populated areas. If you have paid attention, the military-political leadership of Azerbaijan always claims that, allegedly, with their latest action, they had to pre-attack in order to stop some imaginary actions of the Armenian armed forces. As the deputy head of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, I officially declare that such an event was neither planned nor planned by the Armenian armed forces and cannot be, as it contradicts the orders of our military and political leadership.
The leadership of Azerbaijan constantly mentions that Armenia is their historical territory, and this region is always emphatically mentioned as Basargechar. Starting from May 12, 2021, the direction of their actions is towards the settlements, with the aim of forcing the population of the border region to leave their settlements. And against this common political background, Turkey actively defends the Azerbaijani side and declares that it will fully help and support Azerbaijan. With such political steps, Turkey does not help to ease the tension, but intentionally and with some plans it aggravates the tension in the region. In other words, it is proved once again that our neighbors are ready to resolve the issue peacefully with only slogans. They continue their aggressive policy. I want to report that the armed forces of Armenia manage to fulfill their tasks and ensure the safety of the national population.
