Representatives of diplomatic organizations accredited in Armenia visited the Gegharkunik province to learn about the situation in the communities as a result of the large-scale attack unleashed by Azerbaijan on the eastern borders of Armenia on September 13. Russian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Sergey Kopirkin said in a press briefing that a decision of the collective security council is currently being developed, which will be called to answer all the questions that are here.
“Russia clearly expresses its position on force methods. I think the only realistic political-diplomatic way of peaceful settlement of the problem, which is based on tripartite agreements, is clear enough. Let’s add to that the practical steps taken by Russia, which are not always announced publicly. Russia, of course, can be criticized, everyone has the right to have their own point of view. However, it is not fair not to admit that Russia, first of all, the top leadership is really making a lot of effort.”
Sergey Kopirkin also mentioned that the withdrawal of troops to the initial positions is the only option for the settlement of the border problem. “There may be different expectations, we understand this tragic situation, but Russia is doing everything within its power so that the process of political settlement, which was launched in November 2020 with the tripartite declaration, will go forward.” The ambassador also added that Russia continues to support the parties in developing common positions in every possible way. According to him, it requires a lot of effort and tension from everyone.
