“After the start of hostilities, we had a large influx, and a similar picture was recorded after September 20. In the very first days, through our social platforms, emails, and calls, people wrote to us and inquired about moving to Armenia, acquiring Armenian citizenship, moving property, children’s education, and other issues. The office of the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs cannot provide complete information about the number of those people,” Hovhannes Aleksanyan, head of the strategy development department of the Office of the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs, announced at the press conference held in the Media Center.
“We can only talk about the number of calls and applications addressed to the structure. Moreover, we used to receive 30-35 applications on a daily basis, but now the situation is somewhat normalized, although, at the same time, the number of requests from the Russian Federation and partially from Ukraine is still high,” he added.
Hovhannes Aleksanyan answered the journalist’s question about from which countries do citizens especially apply for citizenship of the Republic of Armenia. “In general, in recent years, applications for the acquisition of Armenian citizenship have been submitted from around 50 countries of the world. For example, last year such applications were received from 45 countries. That tendency is still maintained today. It is simply necessary to know that the process of repatriation or acquisition of Armenian citizenship is a permanent process, and such applications are received from those regions of the world where we have Armenian communities. They are the countries of the Middle and Near East, the countries of the European Union, the USA, Canada, Australia, and the countries of the post-Soviet area, mainly the Russian Federation.”
