The Stanford Professor versus the Armenian “Correct Majority”

October 19,2022 16:53

Artur Khachikyan, a professor from Stanford University, was in Armenia. In his many interviews and speeches, he analyzed both the general geopolitical situation and our extremely complicated problems.

I do not agree with all of Mr. Khachikyan’s statements. Particularly, the hypothesis he and a bunch of other American political scientists have, that the West forcing Russia to attack Ukraine, seems suspicious to me. Russia, in my book, had all the resources to arrange the conflicts with the West and its factual ally Ukraine, without starting an aggressive war.

Alternatively, I think, these were the observations the professor was right about. First of all: no international figure has the leverage to force Azerbaijan to settle its conflict with Artsakh with the participation of an external mediator. Azerbaijan strongly rejects this motion, believing that this is its “internal issue”.  Thus, as I can understand, the Armenian government mislead our society, affirming that efforts are being put in for Azerbaijan and Artsakh to negotiate “under the auspices”.

Secondly, I am certain that Khachikyan is right when he states that NATO, the USA, or Europe are not going to be able to restrain Turkey if it decides to initiate aggression towards Armenia. Especially, this would not be done by the EU civilian mission. Surely, there will be some severe announcements, but no military support will be offered.

Of course, this is unpleasant to hear, and the masses representing Armenian society have “facts” against the harsh truth. This is the cause of the comments (usually transliterations) such as “He was sent by Kocharyan”, and “He is a Russian spy”. I have to say, it is nice to appear on the same level as a Stanford professor while having an extremely poor stock of knowledge.
