120 Thousand Is not a Few

December 31,2022 10:30

2020 continues for me. In my understanding, the New Year following the defeat, 2022, and this New Year are the same; they are in the chain of the black circle of Armenia. For some, maybe life goes on; what happened, happened. For me, no, because “what happened” continues. Of course, it is not about my personal life, where, thank God, everything is successful, but about the life of my state.

“There was no failure in any field,” RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said, summing up the year. And this says the leader of a country that lost tens of square kilometers of its sovereign territory in 2022, thanks to which, in particular, enemy soldiers can see Lake Sevan and Jermuk without binoculars. I will not list the other failures. Usually, supporters of the government respond to these reports: “What about the opposition?”

It is not an argument for me. If the government has failed, the opposition must achieve spectacular success. The opposition has failed not only in the past 2020, 2021, and 2022 but has been disgraceful, and I am still determining how these oppositionists will continue their political activities. I don’t tie my hopes to the political system.

My hope, however, is the Armenian people. Yes, the part of our people that lives in Armenia is deceived and misguided under the influence of the government’s highly effective propaganda. Any call to support our compatriots in Artsakh or Armenian statehood reformulates as “revenge of the formers,” “desire to loot again,” or (this is the case for the last year) “fifth column” conspiracies.

Our compatriots in the Diaspora are also at a loss; they don’t know what to do. Or maybe they are a little disappointed; they are upset with us, the RA Armenians, that we did not live up to their expectations of Armenian statehood. And at this moment, the only part of our people that knows what they want and what they should do are the 120,000 people of Artsakh. That’s not a few. I am sure that the new national awakening will begin in Artsakh.
