During their visit to Syunik, the delegation members led by former Prime Minister of France, Mayor of Le Havre Edouard Philippe, also visited the French-Armenian Cardiovascular Center of Goris. Accompanied by the Founding Director of the Center Avetis Matikyan and Executive Director, Artak Asoyan, they got acquainted with the center’s work.
“I am very impressed with the center, as I have heard it is unique in the Syunik region. I am glad that the center was created with the support of regional associations of France and various organizations”, said Eduard Philippe in a briefing with journalists. The former Prime Minister of France assured that he would encourage many communities after returning to France.

“The Armenian-French friendship is characterized by the fact that not only the French government directly supports the Armenian government, but also the local self-government bodies of various states. I have to call on them to continue supporting the establishment of new medical centers in Syunik and not only here,” Eduard Philippe concluded his speech. It should be noted that the delegation included the former minister, Member of the European Parliament, Natalie Loizzo, the widow of prominent French-Armenian politician Patrick Devedjian, Sophie Devedjian, and other officials.
The French also met Syunik Marz Governor Robert Ghukasyan and Goris Community Leader Arush Arushanyan and met the Artsakh residents who took temporary refuge in Syunik due to the closed road between Armenia and Artsakh. The French-Armenian Cardiovascular Center in Goris has been operating since 2013. According to the Director of the Center, Artak Asoyan, it is a part of France in the Syunik region. Representatives of all French delegations visiting Syunik are, without exception, in the center. Anne Hidalgo, the Mayor of Paris who visited Armenia in June last year, also visited Goris, the French-Armenian cardiovascular center.
