A school is a place for devotees

March 25,2023 10:33

Pedagogical universities in Soviet Armenia and the rest of the republics of the USSR usually played a secondary role. Suppose that the young man could not be admitted to YSU Philological Faculty, and as a backup option, he was admitted to the same faculty of the Pedagogical Institute. It did not follow that he wanted to become a school teacher. On the contrary, as a rule, young people avoided going that way because it was a poorly paid and nerve-wracking job for them.

That attitude has remained the same, and I understand that it is not just a problem of pedagogical universities. For attitudes to change, large-scale reforms are needed in the entire education system, and why not also in strategy as a whole related to the spiritual sphere?

It is impossible to write about it on one computer page.

But in terms of purely pedagogic education, I dream of the times when universities with this orientation will be better than the rest when studying there will be considered an honor for young people, and graduates will be the most respected members of society. I would like to see in those universities elements of a religious congregation, medieval seminaries, where, in addition to the actual subjects, the spiritual Knowledge (the Knowledge itself, not the information) is taught, which is then taken to school. In that case, only dedicated, service-ready people will go to school to work.

These are my dreams, but I can’t imagine the development of the state in any other way. A man who enters the classroom with a desire to reduce nerves, which is limited to repeating textbook truths, does as much harm to the state as a wrong doctor, builder, and craftsman. Perhaps, the damage may be more outstanding.
