On March 28th, within the frames of the working visit to the Federal Republic of Germany, we met Bärbel Bas, the President of the Bundestag of the FRG, as part of the Armenian delegation led by Alen Simonyan, President of National Assembly of RA.
I presented to Ms. Bärbel Bas the situation created by Azerbaijan’s complete blockade of the Republic of Artsakh, Azerbaijan’s attempts to implement the policy of ethnic cleansing and gross violations of the international legal order, one of the clear proofs of which is the disregard of the decision of International Court of Justice.
In this context, I spoke about the right to self-determination of the Armenians of Artsakh, whose recognition by the international community is the imperative of the day.
I introduced her to the blockade of the Lachin corridor under the name of “eco-activists”, but even after the suspension of the operation of the Kashen mine by the Artsakh authorities, Azerbaijan still holds the only vital road closed. And now, according to Azerbaijan Armenians transfer weapons to Artsakh, so the installation of scanners is needed.
I conveyed to the President of the Bundestag the message of the State Minister of the Republic of Artsakh, Gurgen Nersisyan, as the opinion of the Artsakh government, that Artsakh is ready to neutralize Azerbaijan’s false concerns about the fact that weapons are being transported from Armenia to Artsakh, the truth of which could be revealed by the Russian peacekeepers’ proposed the installation of a scanner device for trucks on the road from Goris to Artsakh, but Azerbaijan does not agree to this either, the road to the life of Artsakh continues to be blockaded.
In this way Azerbaijan tries to ensure its main goals, subjugation of the people of Artsakh through pressure, violence or the threat of it. The State Minister noted that they were even ready for such constructive steps, although in 2020 by the tripartite statement of November 9, Russian peacekeepers had assumed the function of all control over the corridor and there was no reason not to trust them.
I presented the security problems in the post-war Republic of Armenia and the tense situation on the borders of the RA, the problems hindering the realization of the vital human right to life. I mentioned the servicemen killed by enemy fire during their service in Artsakh, as well as a soldier killed on the RA state border.
Referring to democracy in Armenia, I pointed out the existing problems and challenges.
