Slovakia is one of the important partners of Armenia since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Slovakia. I am sure that the parliamentary diplomacy will play an essential role in the advancement of the Armenian-Slovakian bilateral agenda. Receiving the delegation led by the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Council of Slovakia Marián Kéry, the Head of the NA Armenia-Slovakia Friendship Group Artsvik Minasyan said about this.
Artsvik Minasyan highly appreciated the Marián Kéry’s personal contribution in the Slovak Parliament in the adoption of the two resolutions on the Nagorno Karabakh (NK) conflict in 2020-2021. It was required from Azerbaijan to release Armenian prisoners of war and to protect the Armenian cultural heritage on the territories that had passed under the control of Azerbaijan. “Unfortunately, until now the military crimes of Azerbaijan continue against the mankind,” the deputy stressed.
The Secretary of Armenia Faction highly assessed the support of Slovakia in the formation of the position of the European Union (EU) regarding the NK conflict, as well as the deployment of the EU long-term Civilian Observation Mission in Armenia. According to him, this Mission should be observed in the context of ensuring security of Armenia, but not the West-Russia relationship in the region.
Artsvik Minasyan presented to the guests the crisis situation created in Artsakh after the illegal blockade of the Lachin Corridor, noted that Azerbaijan publicly despises the opinion of the international community, does not execute the decision of the UN International Court of Justice. According to him, these actions of Azerbaijan grossly violates not only the European values, but also the provisions of trilateral statement. “It is important that the international community increases the pressure on Baku – to stop the anti-Armenian policy and the ethnic cleansing,” the Head of the Friendship Group and added that Azerbaijan not only manifests aggression towards the NK population, but occupies the territories of the Republic of Armenia.

The Head of the Friendship Group underscored that dynamics of the political dialogue of the two countries, emphasized the necessity of the parliamentary cooperation and mutual visits. Speaking about the collaboration of the parliamentary delegations in the international structures, Artsvik Minasyan opined that we should make efforts in activating those contacts. “The best example was our work with the Slovak members of the European Parliament during the adoption of the important resolutions on the Republic of Armenia and Nagorno Republic,” he said
The Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Council of Slovakia noted that they are informed about the difficult situation created because of the Lachin Corridor blockade, the false statements on the environmental problems. According to him, the establishment of the Armenian-Slovak friendly relations also that during the debates in their parliament sharp approaches sound regarding the activities of Azerbaijan. Marián Kéry noted with satisfaction the fact that the European Union seeks to become a third party, promoting the right solution of this conflict on time.
