“The current humanitarian situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, of course, causes concern. Free movement through the Lachin Corridor must be ensured,” said Iceland’s Foreign Minister, President of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, Þórdís Kolbrún Reykfjörð Gylfadóttir, during the plenary session of the spring session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
It should be noted that during the question-and-answer session with the President of the Committee of Ministers, Hripsime Grigoryan, a member of the Armenian delegation to the PACE, stated that there are high expectations from the summit to be organized in Reykjavik, asked what the meeting can do to address the current security challenges more inclusively including also the problems of Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijan’s latest aggression against Armenia.
The President of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe emphasized: “Azerbaijan should restore free movement through the Lachin Corridor, according to the interim measure of the European Court of Human Rights, the request of the International Court of the United Nations.”

She expressed her concern on this occasion and reiterated her call, which she made in January, according to which free movement should be ensured through the Lachin Corridor. She reminded that after becoming CE members in 2001, RA and Azerbaijan undertook a commitment to resolve the conflict peacefully, so both countries should act according to their obligations and avoid adventurism, which worsens the situation.
