The Azerbaijani aggression hinders the constructive dialogue: President of the National Assembly of Slovenia to Alen Simonyan

The delegation led by the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia Urška Klakočar Zupančič is in Armenia at the invitation of the RA NA President Alen Simonyan.

On May 30, the RA NA President received the delegation led by the Slovenian colleague. After the private conversation with Alen Simonyan and the leaving a note in the RA NA Memory Book the Slovenian guests took part in the extended meeting.

At the meeting the RA NA President highlighted the role of the parliamentary diplomacy in the context of inter-state relations, highly appreciating the effective ties between the friendship groups of the legislative bodies of the two countries.

The sides documented with joy about the meeting between the RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia Robert Golob being planned within the framework of the Second European Political Community Summit to be held in Chișinău on June 1.

Alen Simonyan underlined the cooperation with Slovenia within the framework of cooperation with the European Union.

The RA NA President expressed his gratitude for hosting a group of Artsakh children in the Republic of Slovenia taking part in the Project ‘Psycho-Social Rehabilitation of the Children who suffered from the Armed Conflict in Nagorno Karabakh in October 2022. Urška Klakočar Zupančič informed that the Government of Slovenia extended that project for two years more.

The sides discussed issues regarding the security of the region.

“We welcome the urgent resolution adopted by the Parliament of Slovenia on Humanitarian consequences of the blockade in Nagorno Karabakh, as well as the positions of principle on the Nagorno Karabakh conflict and the Azerbaijani aggression against Armenia,” Alen Simonyan noted.

Hearing the details on the post-war situation, the Slovenian colleague mentioned that in their country they follow the situation caused because of the Azerbaijani aggression in the territory of Armenia, and they are familiar with the Lachin Corridor crisis. According to her, peace is an important and vital value for the Slovenians, and the Azerbaijani aggression is worrisome and reprehensible, which hinders the constructive dialogue. She noted that Slovenia can become a bridge for Armenia to the Central and Western Europe.

The RA NA President referred to the deployment of the new Observation Mission of the European Union on 20 February 2023, noting that it will foster the stability and peace in the region.

The RA NA President stated that the aggressive rhetoric of Baku escalating day by day and the wrongful actions are inadmissible, and Armenia voices about the necessity of imposing sanctions against Azerbaijan and expects the international colleagues’ targeted responses.

After an extended meeting, the Slovenian colleagues accompanied by the RA NA President and the Friendship Group Armenia-Slovenia took a tour in the RA NA building, were in the Session Hall, where they met with the children who left for their country by the Project of the Government of Slovenia.

The RA NA President urged the children to study well and follow the events happening in the world for more precise picture of life. Urška Klakočar Zupančič advised the children to be open hearted, hospitable and love people without discrimination.

The symbolic tree planting in the Park of the National Assembly followed the meeting with the children.

The meeting with Alen Simonyan was summed up with the statement for the press.

The RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and the RA President Vahagn Khachaturyan will also receive the President of the National Assembly of Slovenia.
