Envoy of Pope Francis, Secretary of State of the Holy See, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, who recently participated in the Holy and Immortal Liturgy at the Holy Martyrs Armenian Catholic Church in Gyumri, clarified that his visit is humanitarian.
“Our main service is humanitarian because we are sure that humanitarian gestures can create a general atmosphere and small gestures to achieve peace. Leaving the Holy See, which as a state has a humanitarian character, I have come to make an effort to achieve peace through such humanitarian gestures. We talked with the president in Azerbaijan and with the president and prime minister in Armenia, we gathered the information, and after returning, we will understand how to implement our steps consistently,” said Cardinal Pietro Parolin.
Referring to the meeting with relatives of prisoners in Gyumri, he mentioned that war is always destructive. “This was an opportunity to touch with our hands the suffering that specific people suffer; war is always destructive. Meeting young mothers who have lost their young children breaks your heart. The consequences of all wars are the same, but let’s take a closer look. As they asked, to pray and advance our efforts to achieve the establishment of peace,” said the Secretary of State of the Holy See.
