On September 6, the Chief of Staff, Secretary General of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Davit Arakelyan received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to Armenia Alison Mary LeClaire and her delegation. The NA Deputy Chief of Staff Heghine Khachikyan also attended the meeting.
Welcoming the guests Davit Arakelyan thanked the Ambassador of Canada for the diplomatic work assumed during the hard period for Armenia and cooperation. “Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Canada the relations between the two countries are of friendly character and are based on mutual trust and respect. We very highly appreciate the fact that in 2020, from the first day of the Second Artsakh War Canada actively makes efforts for ceasefire,” Davit Arakelyan noted.
Highlighting the development and deepening of bilateral cooperation, the NA Chief of Staff, Secretary General considered an effective work of the ministries of the two countries the opening of the Embassy of Canada in our country.
Davit Arakelyan recorded with satisfaction the fact the inter-parliamentary diplomatic cooperation has its unique place in the Armenian-Canadian bilateral relations. “We attach importance to the role of the friendship groups of the two parliaments. They are important in cooperation between our two legislative bodies, as well as in the development of inter-state relations,” Davit Arakelyan underlined. In this context the latter also highly assessed the joint effective works with the Parliamentary Centre (Canada), the mutual visits for the exchange of experience and underscored that with the support of the Centre the RA NA Staff Strategic Development Program was worked out, which is aimed at making the activities of the Staff more inclusive, involving the persons with disabilities, the women and the young people.

During the meeting the issues regarding the deepening of cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries, the joint programs implemented with the Parliamentary Centre (Canada) and the further programs were discussed.
Summing up the meeting, Davit Arakelyan expressed hope that the cooperation will be of continuous character.
