Annita Demetriou, President of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus, called on the Council of Europe member states to support the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh in the same way as they steadfastly support the people of Ukraine. In particular, Dementriou stated.
“Dear colleagues, as we speak, there has been an unspeakable humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh for ten months. Thousands of exhausted, malnourished, and scared people are lining up for the mass exodus to Armenia, escaping ethnic cleansing. What have we done to stop another humanitarian disaster that awakens the memories of the traumatic past of the Armenian people? It is not enough; in general, it is nothing. We must support the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh in the same way that we steadfastly support the people of Ukraine.”
According to Annita Demetriou, we are witnessing not only military aggression but also flagrant international law and human rights violations. “Our determination for those principles must be unconditional and free from double standards, regardless of who the aggressor is: In this case, Azerbaijan, Russia in the case of Ukraine, and Turkey in the case of Cyprus.

The international community must continue to support Ukraine’s recovery efforts. At the same time, we must direct all our energies to the speedy end of the war in Ukraine. We must also end Azerbaijan’s aggression in Armenia and Turkey’s illegal and expansionist ambitions in Cyprus and return to the negotiating table as soon as possible.”
According to Aravot.am, after this speech, the delegations of Turkey and Azerbaijan tried to distribute some booklets and information leaflets in their favor to the attendees, but mainly were rejected. They received rejection from around 450 delegates.
