The initiative proposes to establish an authorizing norm for the procedure of documenting stateless persons and determining their status: The Head of the Migration and Citizenship Service of the RA Ministry of Internal Affairs Armen Ghazaryan said, presenting the amendments to the Law on Citizenship of the Republic of Armenia in the first reading.
According to the rapporteur, it is also proposed to extend the period of recognition as an RA citizen by Article 10.2 of the law until 2026: It is related to those Armenians still living in the RA, who are citizens of other republics of the former USSR and do not have citizenship of any country.
The initiative clarifies the relations with terminating the citizenship of children. “In the event that a child can become a stateless person, the RA citizenship will be transferred to them by law,” Armen Ghazaryan underscored.
Amendments are also designed in the provisions regarding the prevention of illegal migration and the termination of the citizenship of a minor after the termination of the RA citizenship.
