On April 29, within the framework of the official visit to Qatar, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan had a meeting with the Speaker of the Shura Council of the State of Qatar, Hassan bin Abdulla Al-Ghanim.

Both sides stressed the importance of the developing political dialogue between Armenia and Qatar, including through mutual high-level visits.

“Our bilateral relations have a great potential for development, and parliamentary ties have their unique role in that direction,” Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan added. The Minister noted with satisfaction that friendship groups have already been formed in both Parliaments.

The Foreign Minister of Armenia and the Speaker of the Shura Council of Qatar emphasized that the relations between the two countries, as well as between Armenia and the countries of the Arab world in a broader sense, are routed in the ties and mutual sympathy formed historically between the two peoples while the vision and prospects for further development are based on the aspirations for economic development and prosperity.

Minister Mirzoyan added that the opening of the resident embassy of Armenia in Qatar in 2019 and Qatar’s resident embassy in Armenia in 2023 is also evidence of this, as well as a commitment to undertake joint concrete efforts to develop cooperation both bilaterally and through the platform of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

The interlocutors also touched upon the current challenges in the conditions of modern geopolitical developments.

Minister Mirzoyan recalled the provision of humanitarian aid to displaced refugees from Gaza by the Government of Armenia as part of efforts aimed at alleviating the situation of the civilian population.

Touching upon the efforts aimed at achieving lasting peace in the South Caucasus, Minister Mirzoyan briefed on the steps undertaken towards normalization of relations with the neighbours, including Armenia’s position on the existing key issues in the draft peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The importance of ensuring greater clarity in the delimitation process, based on the 1991 Alma-Ata Declaration, was stressed.

Touching upon regional interconnectivity, Minister Mirzoyan also briefed his interlocutor on the “Crossroads of Peace” project developed by the Government of the Republic of Armenia as a guarantee of sustainable development.
