“The Media is a Responsibility”: Shushan Harutyunyan, Co-Founder of AxelMondrian, speaks on Communication and Education

September 03,2024 14:18

Shushan Harutyunyan, co-founder and Chief executive officer of AxelMondrian, spoke about professional and civic values on the “Re:arrange” podcast. During the nearly three-hour discussion, which garnered tens of thousands of views, Harutyunyan shared key insights on education and communication.

  • “The microphone is a responsibility. Trashing the internet, creating content that smacks of obscenity, has nothing to do with freedom.”
  •  “Education is the best and most ingenious option of social control ever thought of because it helps us navigate the system of social relations. Without education, people could not cooperate and transmit memory, knowledge, and systems from generation to generation.”
  • “When technology gets ahead of social consensus, it mostly creates evil. For example, technological advances have given rise to social networks, where the means for people to express themselves and become sources of primary information have been liberalized. As a result, technology has added garbage, created social polarization, and become a platform where people no longer listen to each other and want to punish the difference.”
  • “As an institutional unit, it is difficult for us to compete with individuals who have no transparency, no taxation, no responsibility and can allow themselves to “experiment” at the expense of their clients. Contrary to popular belief, the creative industry is less experimental. In communications, only 5 percent is creativity; the rest is math, research and calculated steps.”
  • “If we think about the fact that today I plant the tree, it is possible that I will not rest under its shadow. But the fact that I am planting a tree today for future generations is already the noblest mission.”
