They Are Not Acting—They’re Doing PR

February 22,2025 11:00

Why is everything going from bad to worse, from disastrous developments in national issues to the paralysis of life in the capital? The answer is simple: instead of taking real action, the current authorities pour all their energy into shaping “public opinion.”

This approach has many manifestations:

Instead of removing snow, making roads passable, and preparing public transport for winter conditions, they log onto Facebook to deliver heroic narratives about snow removal.

Instead of building the Ajapnyak metro station, they organize multiple “presentations” of its project.

Instead of reforming education, they spend years talking about the fiction called “Academic City.”

Instead of fighting corruption, they perfect corruption schemes—enriching friends, old and new oligarchs—while keeping public focus on the “former” rulers’ alleged plunder. After a change of power, I assure you, even louder corruption scandals will surface. This is precisely why they cling to their positions.

Instead of genuinely pursuing European integration—which, in my opinion, should be our state’s main strategic path—they engage in loud but empty rhetoric and pass meaningless ‘laws’ declaring intentions to join the EU.

Instead of reforming governance—including through constitutional amendments—they preserve the Prime Minister’s dictatorial powers while drafting a “new constitution,” whose sole purpose is to renounce the Declaration of Independence. To justify fulfilling Aliyev’s demands, they resort to clumsy and ill-conceived ideological justifications.
Instead of winning a war, they present defeat as victory.
