Several dozen parliamentarians from Romania, Lithuania, Latvia, and Ukraine have expressed individual or group “support” for the Aliyev regime regarding the trials of prisoners held in Baku’s prisons. Certain MPs are particularly “enthusiastic” about the trial of Ruben Vardanyan.
It is evident that Azerbaijan’s oil lobbying has influenced these European “uninformed” parliamentarians.
I have sent letters to the leaders of the parliaments of the aforementioned countries, presenting the injustices committed against Armenian prisoners, the anti-Armenian policies of the Azerbaijani authorities, and reminding them that European institutions have repeatedly stated that our compatriots held in Baku’s prisons are hostages and prisoners of war who must be released immediately.
Beyond making international voyages, it is crucial to provide the international community with accurate information about Azerbaijan’s policies—something our political tourists neither have the time nor the willingness to do.
