On April 1, the RA NA Vice President Hakob Arshakyan met with the Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign and European Affairs of Montenegro Filip Ivanović.
“The development of multifaceted cooperation with Montenegro is one of the important directions of Armenia’s foreign policy,” Hakob Arshakyan said, welcoming Filip Ivanović. In the framework of bilateral relations, the Vice President of the National Assembly highlighted the role of parliamentary diplomacy as a strong indicator of mutual commitment to strengthening ties.
Hakob Arshakyan informed that the draft law on starting the process of Armenia’s membership in the EU, submitted to the Parliament by a civil initiative, successfully passed all the necessary internal procedures and was adopted by the National Assembly in the second reading.
Touching upon regional issues, the Vice President of the National Assembly spoke about the Peace Agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the Armenian prisoners of war and civilians held in Azerbaijan, and the bogus trials being conducted against them. He presented the Crossroads of Peace initiative authored by the Government.

“The desire to develop cooperation between the Governments of the two countries is great,” said the Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign and European Affairs of Montenegro. He noted that this was his first visit to Armenia and expressed gratitude for the warm welcome.
Filip Ivanović welcomed and congratulated the Armenian people on the adoption of the draft law on the start of the process of Armenia’s accession to the EU.
The Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign and European Affairs of Montenegro attached importance to the active cooperation and mutual visits of the friendship groups.
At the meeting, ideas were exchanged on the potential and prospects for the development of education, science, high-tech sectors, and mutual cooperation.
The parties emphasized that the existing potential of cooperation between the two countries should be realized.
The Head of the RA NA Armenia-Montenegro Friendship Group Arsen Torosyan attended the meeting as well.
